So some of you probably saw my post from the other night. Some of you even weighed in on it. I'm definitely ready to go back to an office job. I started applying for positions, but even that's disheartening, because I haven't really found what I'm looking for. I interviewed a few weeks back for a job I'd really like, but the management team has flaked out on me in the past, and it looks like they may do the same on me this time.
I don't want to be job hopping anymore, I just want to find my career and work it. Any advice?

I looked up your old post, so you don't like selling cars huh? I can't say I blame you. I had a somewhat similar job I was a golf pro (not a pro golfer big difference) so it meant work every weekend holiday etc. I kinda fell into another job in that industry doing accounting. It's not the most exciting stuff in the world but I am pretty good at it and it's a M-F 9 to 5. I would say do your best at the job your are at now and network as much as you can. You never know who you will meet.

That may be what I end up doing. Nothing out there is really hitting me as "the one".

I'm somewhat in the same situation, in that I'm trying to figure out my "path(s)." I used to be so highly motivated and ambitious in one realm, then I began to lose interest. I then found another; but, lately have been feeling unmotivated... I mean, it's a career path I want to do; but, I'm a person who prefers structure, certainty, and the security of being able to come home with a check as a result of me earning it; versus the uncertainty of commission only pay. I'm young and finding myself...
I guess the takeaway here is, keep seeking, remain positive, and stay active. We will find our "ones" in time.

Can you head back to school in something helpful?

Commission still scares me. My first sales job was an inside sales position for salary. I'm really starting to miss it.

Wish you all the best in finding something you really love. One good thing about your current job perhaps is the opportunity to meet all sorts of different people, and you never know, one of those connections could open a door for you.

I've got a decent degree. I just don't have the "relevant experience". Information Systems and Operations Management is good for 3 things: Business Analysis, Logistics, and Project Management. Unfortunately all three require experience.
The only thing I could really do to help would be to get PMP certified for the Project Management path. But even that's not a sure thing without experience.

That would be nice. People tend to like me and are impressed when I tell them what my degree is in.

That's a solid money degree. You can find an entry level ops position somewhere.
My friend had a similar education background and landed a $60k job straight out of school.

It sounds like you have to broaden your search geographically.

He had a quality internship, for sure.
Not sure why you're having too much trouble. It should be fairly easy for you to find a gig at a production facility somewhere. What areas are you looking at in terms of location?

Northern VA, particularly Fairfax/Leesburg/Sterling and the surrounding cities.

Are you open to relocation elsewhere?
Take a look at a company called Textron. Or maybe look at some of the nuke plants around the area. A friend of mine with only an associate's degree is making 70+ as a nuke plant operator.
